Best Place to Live 2023 – Whitley Bay, North East
Surrounded by Blue Flag beaches and an abundance of independent shops and restaurants, it is no secret that Whitley Bay is one of the best places to live in the North East.
However, it seems that The Sunday Times has made the truth official by naming our beautiful seaside town the best place to live in the North of England on its annual Best Places to Live 2023, which last year featured Morpeth. Although it does not feature this year, other entries this time include Ouseburn and Wooler.
Judges praised Whitley Bay for its beautiful coastline and the regeneration that has helped the town compete with neighbouring towns.
Helen Davies, the editor of Best Places to Live 2023, said: “the connections to Newcastle and the beach, with its famous lighthouse” being “every bit as beautiful” as its neighbouring town of Tynemouth.
Helen also said: “The most impressive thing here has been the transformation of Park View into one of the best independent shopping streets in the country, with its artisan bakery, brunch spots, and microbrewery, as well as more traditional outlets such as the shoe-repairer and the butcher.”
