‘Energy House 2.0’ is coming..
The average home is designed to ‘trap in heat’ which in theory is ideal for the typical British weather we have become so accustomed to. However, with the temperatures in the UK reaching highs of over 40C, the idea of trapping that heat inside our homes is now becoming a potential future issue.
In sight of this, ‘The Future Home’ by Bellway is being built at the University of Salford’s net-zero research facility and has been part funded by the European Regional Development Fund. It aims to test building materials in their innovation, the effectiveness of double and triple glazing, storing solar energy, and the efficiency of air source heat pumps. Currently there are four Future Homes being built in Callerton, Northumberland with a series of other test sites set up across the country, with buyers working with Bellway to observe energy usage as part of their strategy to reduce carbon.
Dubbed ‘Energy House 2.0’, they will investigate how the houses manage in temperatures from -20C to as high as 40C and in turn research how the UK can advance towards a zero carbon emissions target.
